Kirinuki is a traditional Japanese pottery technique that involves carving and hollowing a form from a solid block of clay. In this hand building workshop taught by ceramicist Alex Oskie, students will explore clay without needing to use a wheel. Over the course of two hours, you will learn the fundamentals of kirinuki and create one or more small pieces by shaping, cutting, and refining your form.
Finished pieces will be fired and brought back to The Record Shop after a few weeks.
No experience required. Just curiosity and a willingness to get your hands dirty.
Tickets are $115.

About the artist:
Alex is a an artist living and working in Brooklyn, NY. Coming from a traditional arts background — but coming back to a childhood love for clay well after higher education.
I continue to be drawn to the balance between traditional works and modern design aesthetics. Exploring more rigid geometric forms merging with elements and surfaces that show the artist’s hand.
